Kitchen Cabinet Painting Services
Spray-Painted Doors
Spray finishing gives kitchen cabinet doors a factory-smooth, brush-mark-free result. It produces an even film thickness across flat and moulded surfaces that brush and roller work cannot match.
We mask the surrounding kitchen thoroughly before spraying. Appliances, worktops, and floors are all protected.
Each door gets a primer coat, a light sand, and two finish coats before being rehung.
This approach works for both in-situ painting and off-site finishing. Off-site spraying suits detached doors with complex mouldings.
In-situ spraying suits fitted units where removing the doors would cause damage.
Solid Wood vs MDF Cabinets
Solid timber and MDF behave differently under paint, and preparation differs accordingly. Both can be finished to a very high standard when the right process is followed.
Solid wood grain must be filled and sanded flush before primer goes on. MDF edges are porous and absorb primer quickly.
They need at least two primer coats and a light sand before topcoat to prevent the edge showing through the finish.
Stanmore 1920s and 1930s estate homes on Stanmore Lane often have solid timber kitchen cabinet doors carrying thick layers of old gloss. Achieving a factory-smooth finish requires stripping back to bare wood rather than painting over the build-up.
Skipping that stage shows clearly in the result.
Cabinet Colour Selection
Changing kitchen cabinet colour transforms a room without a full replacement. Pale greys, off-whites, and navy blues are the most popular choices, but we work to any colour.
We use trade-quality paints with strong pigment and a hard-wearing finish. These perform better than consumer-grade paint on kitchen surfaces, which face heat, steam, and daily handling.
We can match most RAL or Farrow and Ball references accurately.
If you are unsure on colour, we can advise on what works well in Winchester kitchens and show finish samples before work begins.
Cabinet Painting vs Replacement
Cabinet painting costs a fraction of a full kitchen replacement and can achieve a finish that looks new. For kitchens where the carcasses and layout are sound, painting is almost always the better value choice.
Replacement makes sense when units are damaged structurally or when the layout no longer works. For sound kitchens that simply look dated, painting delivers a better return.
We can give an honest opinion when we visit to quote.
For interior painting work in other rooms during the same project, we can combine visits to reduce cost and disruption.
Worktops and Carcasses
Cabinet doors are the main visual element, but worktops and carcasses contribute to the finished result too. We paint carcass end panels and frame faces to match the door colour.
Some laminate worktops can be painted using a specialist primer and hard-wearing topcoat. Results vary by worktop material and condition.
We advise on suitability when we visit, rather than committing to an outcome before seeing the surface.

Here’s How It Works
1. Site visit and assessment
We inspect every door, carcass, and end panel. We check the condition of the existing finish and note the material underneath. We advise on preparation requirements and likely finish options before quoting.
2. Surface preparation
Old paint is sanded back and, where necessary, stripped to bare material. Doors are degreased with a specialist cleaner. Grain filler or MDF primer is applied at this stage depending on the surface.
3. Priming
Every door gets a primer coat matched to the material. Solid wood gets a different primer from MDF. Primers are sanded back before topcoat to ensure a flat base.
4. Finishing coats
Two finish coats are applied by spray or brush depending on the agreed method. Each coat is allowed to cure fully before the next. We do not rush this stage.
5. Rehang and inspection
Doors are rehung, hinges adjusted, and every door checked for alignment. We inspect every surface in good light before considering the job complete.
